Every home has a list of small jobs that never quite get done. A shelf to put up, a curtain rod that fell down, a gate that drags, a pile of old timber behind the shed, a broken bed frame in the spare room, a trailer load of garden waste. None of them is big enough to call a specialist, and together they take up a whole weekend you would rather spend elsewhere.
Our odd jobs service is made for exactly this. Give us your list, and we will work through it in one visit, including taking away the small amounts of rubbish that the jobs create or that have been waiting for a trip to the tip. We cover Warragul, Drouin, Trafalgar, Yarragon and the surrounding district.
Odd jobs we do
The list is long, and if your job is not here, just ask:
- Hanging pictures, mirrors, shelves, curtain rods, blinds and clocks.
- Assembling flat-pack furniture and outdoor settings.
- Adjusting doors, cupboards, gates and drawers.
- Replacing door handles, hooks, towel rails and toilet roll holders.
- Fixing loose fence palings, broken steps and loose handrails.
- Fitting child safety latches, door stops and baby gates.
- Sealing around baths, sinks and windows.
- Installing letterboxes, house numbers and clotheslines.
- Moving heavy furniture within the home.
- Changing light globes in high or awkward places (not electrical repairs).
- Patching small holes and touching up paint.
- Cleaning gutters and pressure washing paths.
- Tidying sheds, garages and under-house areas.
Electrical, plumbing, gas and other licensed work is referred to licensed trades.
Small rubbish removal
We remove small loads of household and garden rubbish in our trailer and take it to the appropriate transfer station or recycling facility. This suits:
- Old furniture and mattresses (disposal fees apply at transfer stations).
- Garden waste such as branches, prunings and weeds.
- Timber offcuts and building scraps from small jobs.
- Boxes and packaging from moving or new furniture.
- Shed and garage clean-outs.
- Items left behind by tenants.
- Old fencing palings and small amounts of demolition waste from our own jobs.
For large clean-outs, full house clearances or builder’s waste, a skip bin is usually more practical. We can help load a skip you have hired.
What we cannot take
- Asbestos or material that may contain it, which must be handled by licensed removalists.
- Chemicals, paints in quantity, oils and gas bottles, which have dedicated drop-off programs.
- Medical and hazardous waste.
- Soil, concrete and heavy rubble in large amounts.
Baw Baw Shire runs transfer stations and periodic drop-off programs for items such as e-waste, paint and chemicals. Check the shire’s current information for what is accepted and where.

How an odd jobs visit works
Make a list
Write down everything you want done, room by room. Include measurements and photos where useful, and note anything that needs parts or materials, such as a new blind, handle or curtain rod.
Send it to us
Send the list and photos through our free quote form. We will review it, ask questions if needed, and let you know which items we can do, which need another trade, and how long the visit is likely to take.
Materials
We can supply common hardware and fixings. For items where you have a preference, such as a specific handle or light fitting, you can buy them in advance and have them ready.
The visit
We work through the list in a logical order, keep you informed, and clean up as we go. If something takes longer than expected, we discuss it with you before carrying on.
Rubbish
Rubbish from the jobs, plus any extra items you want removed, goes in the trailer and is taken away.
Shed and garage clean-ups
Sheds and garages fill up over the years with old timber, broken tools, empty paint tins, garden pots, bikes, furniture and boxes. We can help sort, shelve, and remove unwanted items. Shelving, hooks and wall-mounted storage can make a big difference; see shelf and picture hanging for options. Many garages in Warragul and Drouin estates are used for storage rather than cars, and a few hours of sorting and shelving can win back the space.
Garden tidy-ups
Small garden jobs that go with odd jobs include trimming overgrown shrubs away from paths and gutters, removing fallen branches, clearing weeds from paths and driveways, and taking away green waste. For regular mowing or large landscaping projects, a gardener or landscaper is better suited. Pressure washing paths, patios and decks also lifts a property; see pressure washing.

Moving in and moving out
Moving is one of the busiest times for odd jobs. When moving in, people need curtains, blinds, shelves, TV mounts and furniture assembled. When moving out, holes need patching, fittings removed and rubbish cleared. See end-of-lease and rental repairs, TV wall mounting and flat-pack assembly.
For older residents
Many of our odd jobs customers are older residents who can no longer climb ladders or lift heavy items safely. Changing a high light globe, cleaning gutters, moving furniture, fitting grab rails or putting up a shelf can be risky for someone living alone. Family members who live away from West Gippsland often arrange a visit to work through a list for a parent. See aged care and disability rails.
Preparing a property for sale
Before listing a property, a list of small fixes can make a real difference to how it presents in photos and at inspections: patched walls, touched-up paint, working door handles, clean gutters, pressure-washed paths, tidy gardens, removed rubbish, and a clear garage. Agents often provide a list of items after an appraisal, and we can work through it in a day or two.
A typical odd jobs visit
Here is a common example. A homeowner in Trafalgar has a list: hang three pictures and a mirror, fit a new curtain rod in the bedroom, adjust two sticking cupboard doors, replace a broken towel rail, re-silicone the kitchen sink, fix a gate that drags, and take away an old bed base and a pile of prunings.
The visit
The pictures and mirror are hung level using the right fixings for plasterboard and brick. The curtain rod is fixed into the timber above the window. Cupboard hinges are adjusted. The towel rail is replaced and fixed securely. The kitchen sink silicone is cut out, the surface cleaned and new silicone applied. The gate hinge is adjusted and the latch realigned. The bed base and prunings go in the trailer.
The result
The whole list is done in a few hours, and the rubbish is gone the same day.
Getting a quote
Send your list with photos and any measurements. Let us know if there is rubbish to remove, roughly how much, and where it is (for example, down the side of the house or in the garage). We will reply with a free written quote. We do not publish prices online.

Why a list works best
Booking one visit for several jobs is more efficient than separate call-outs. Travel and setup happen once, materials can be bought together, and you get everything done in one go. Keep a list on the fridge or on your phone, add to it as things come up, and when it gets to a handful of items, send it through.
Safety first
Some odd jobs are more dangerous than they look. Working on ladders, lifting heavy items, using power tools and climbing onto roofs cause many home injuries each year. If a job involves heights, heavy lifting or unfamiliar tools, it is worth getting help. We use the right ladders and equipment, and work safely. We do not work on steep or fragile roofs; gutter cleaning is done from ladders where it is safe.
Seasonal odd jobs
West Gippsland’s seasons bring their own lists.
- Autumn: clean gutters before winter rain, clear leaves from paths and drains, check fences and gates before winter winds, and seal draughty doors and windows.
- Winter: fix doors that swell and stick in the damp, treat mould on bathroom ceilings and window frames, check for loose roof-line items after storms, and fit door seals to keep the cold out.
- Spring: pressure wash paths and decks after winter, repair flyscreens before the flies arrive, tidy sheds and gardens, and take away the green waste from spring pruning.
- Summer: clear gutters and around homes of dry leaves and debris ahead of the fire season, check outdoor furniture and shade sails, and repair outdoor gates and fences.
Holiday homes and absentee owners
Some properties around Neerim South, Darnum and the rural parts of the district are holiday homes or owned by people living elsewhere. We can visit with a list from the owner, send photos of completed work, and let the owner know about anything else we notice that needs attention, such as a loose fence, blocked gutter or storm damage.
Communication
For every visit, we confirm the list and arrival time in advance, let you know if anything changes on the day, and send a short summary and photos of completed work if you are not at home. If we notice another problem while we are working, such as a leaking pipe or a damaged roof tile, we let you know so you can arrange the right trade.
Our approach
We treat every home with respect. We wear clean shoes or covers indoors, lay drop sheets where needed, keep tools tidy, and leave each area clean when we finish. Small jobs deserve the same care as big ones.
No job too small
If it is on your list and it is not licensed work, we are happy to look at it. Small jobs are what we do best.
