Handyman services in Warragul and West Gippsland
Warragul Handyman is a local repair and maintenance service for homes, rentals, lifestyle blocks and small businesses across Warragul and the surrounding Baw Baw district. We look after the jobs that are too small for a builder but too fiddly, too time-consuming or too awkward to tackle on a weekend: the door that won’t latch, the hole in the hallway plaster, the gate that drags on the gravel, the gutters full of leaves, the shelves that need to go up and the flat-pack still in its box in the garage.
Most households have a list of small jobs that never quite gets done. Ours is a simple service built around that list. You tell us what needs doing, we work out what’s involved, and we turn up with the right tools and materials to work through it properly and tidily. Whether it’s one job or fifteen, the aim is the same: get things working again and leave the place better than we found it.
We work across Warragul, Drouin, Trafalgar, Yarragon, Longwarry, Nilma, Darnum, Rokeby, Buln Buln and Neerim South. If you’re on a farm, a lifestyle property in the hills or in one of the newer estates on the edge of town, we’re happy to come to you.

Why a local handyman makes sense in Baw Baw
West Gippsland homes have their own character and their own wear patterns. The district sits between the Strzelecki Ranges and the foothills of Mount Baw Baw, and the weather here is cool, damp and changeable for much of the year. That climate is great for green paddocks and gardens, but it is hard on timber, paint, gutters and anything left outside. Doors swell and stick in winter, timber fences grey and soften, decks get slippery with moss, and gutters fill quickly with leaves and debris from the trees that make the area so attractive.
The housing mix is varied too. Warragul and Drouin have older weatherboard homes and Californian bungalows near the town centres, brick veneer homes from the 1970s through 1990s, and large newer estates that have grown quickly as more people move out from Melbourne along the Princes Freeway corridor. Around the townships, lifestyle blocks and farms add sheds, outbuildings, post-and-rail fencing, gates and water tanks to the maintenance list. Each type of property has its own common problems, and knowing what to look for saves time and gets better results.
A local handyman also means less travel time between jobs, more flexibility with scheduling, and someone who understands that a job in Neerim South in July is a different proposition to a job in a new Drouin estate in February.

Our services
We focus on repairs, maintenance and small improvements. Here are the main things we’re asked to do. Each link takes you to a detailed page about that service.
Repairs inside the home
- General home repairs – the catch-all for jobs that don’t fit a neat category: loose handrails, rattling fittings, broken hooks, squeaky hinges and dozens of other small faults.
- Door repairs and installation – adjusting hinges, planing and resealing sticking doors, replacing latches, handles and door stops, and fitting new internal doors.
- Plaster repairs and wall patching – patching holes, dents and cracks in plasterboard and finishing them ready for paint.
- Painting and touch-ups – touching up patched areas, scuffed walls, skirting, doors and trims.
- Kitchen cupboard repairs – realigning doors, replacing hinges and drawer runners, and fixing loose handles.
- Floor and skirting repairs – replacing damaged skirting, fixing loose trims and refitting scotia.
- Silicone and caulking – removing tired, mouldy silicone and resealing showers, baths, benchtops and gaps around frames.
- Tiling and regrouting – replacing the odd cracked tile and regrouting tired areas.
- Bathroom fixtures and accessories – towel rails, toilet roll holders, mirrors, shelves and shower screens fixed securely. Anything involving water connections goes to a licensed plumber.
Fitting and assembly
- Picture and shelf hanging – artwork, mirrors, floating shelves and storage, with fixings chosen to suit plasterboard, brick or timber.
- TV wall mounting – mounting TVs securely on suitable walls with tidy cable management. New power points need a licensed electrician.
- Flat-pack assembly – wardrobes, drawers, desks, beds and outdoor furniture assembled properly, with tall items anchored to the wall.
- Grab rails and accessibility – grab rails, handrails and small changes that make homes safer and easier to move around in.
Outside the home
- Fence repairs and gates – replacing palings and rails, fixing leaning posts and re-hanging gates that sag or drag.
- Deck and pergola repairs – replacing damaged boards, securing loose fixings and general deck maintenance.
- Gutter cleaning – clearing leaves and debris from gutters on single-storey homes where safe access is available.
- Pressure washing – cleaning paths, driveways, decks and outdoor areas.
- Window and flyscreen repairs – replacing torn mesh, fixing screen frames and freeing up sticking windows.
- Carpentry – small carpentry jobs such as trims, shelving, minor framing repairs and replacement timber.
Maintenance and rentals
- Property maintenance – regular maintenance visits for homes, rentals and small commercial premises.
- End-of-lease and rental repairs – repairs before an inspection, a new tenancy or a sale.
- Odd jobs and rubbish removal – the long list of small things that need doing, plus removal of small loads of job waste.

What we don’t do
Being clear about the limits of a handyman service helps you get the right person for every part of a job.
- Electrical work. In Victoria, electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrician. We don’t install power points, lights, wiring or hardwired appliances.
- Plumbing and gas. Water, sewer, drainage and gas work must be done by a licensed plumber or gasfitter. We can fit accessories such as towel rails, but not taps, toilets or water connections.
- Asbestos. Many homes built before 1990 contain asbestos-containing materials in places such as eaves, wall linings, wet areas and fences. If a material might contain asbestos we won’t drill, cut, sand or remove it. We’ll recommend testing by a licensed professional, and WorkSafe Victoria publishes guidance for homeowners.
- Structural and permit work. Work that needs a registered building practitioner or a building permit, such as structural alterations, is outside what we do.
- Work at unsafe heights. We don’t work on steep or two-storey roofs. Gutter cleaning is for single-storey homes with safe access.
Where your job involves a mix, we’re happy to do our part and work around the licensed trades who do theirs.

How it works
1. Tell us about the job
Use the free quote form to tell us what needs doing and where you are. The more detail the better: a short description of each job, measurements if they’re relevant and a few photos make a big difference. If you’ve got a long list, write it all down. We’d rather see the full picture up front.
2. We talk it through
We’ll get back to you to discuss the work, ask any questions and confirm what’s involved. If something on your list needs a licensed trade, we’ll say so early so you can arrange it.
3. We quote on the real work
There are no prices on this website because every job is different. A sticking door might need a five-minute hinge adjustment or a full plane and reseal. A fence repair might be two palings or a whole run of rails. We quote on what your job actually needs.
4. We do the work and clean up
We arrive with the tools and materials for the job, work carefully around your home and clean up when we’re finished. Once everything’s done, we walk you through it so you know exactly what was done.

Homes, rentals, farms and businesses
Homeowners
For most households, the best use of a handyman is a single visit that clears a whole list. Group your small jobs together: the wobbly towel rail, the scuffed hallway, the gate latch, the shelf for the laundry. One visit means less disruption for you and better value from the time on site.
Renters, landlords and property managers
Rental properties need regular attention. Wear and tear, repairs between tenancies and work flagged in routine inspections all need to be handled promptly. We work with landlords and agents on maintenance lists and pre-inspection repairs across the district. See our property managers page and our end-of-lease repairs guide. Consumer Affairs Victoria explains the responsibilities of renters and rental providers.
Lifestyle blocks and farms
Properties around Buln Buln, Neerim South, Nilma, Darnum and Rokeby often come with sheds, gates, fences and outbuildings that need regular work. Post-and-rail fences, sagging farm gates, shed doors that won’t close and storm damage after a wild winter are all common jobs.
Small businesses
Shops, offices, clinics, cafés and community buildings need someone dependable for small repairs: doors and closers, shelving, signage brackets, wall patching and general maintenance. See commercial handyman services.

Seasonal maintenance in West Gippsland
The Baw Baw climate rewards a little maintenance at the right time of year.
Autumn and winter
Before the wet sets in, clear the gutters and downpipes, check that external doors seal properly, and look at timber decks, steps and handrails for soft or slippery boards. Inside, winter humidity makes some doors swell and stick, and condensation can damage paint and silicone in bathrooms and laundries. Our guide to preparing your home for a West Gippsland winter covers this in more detail.
Spring
Spring is a good time to catch up on what winter has done: replacing rotten fence palings, re-hanging gates, cleaning moss off paths and decks, repairing flyscreens before the insects arrive and touching up paint while the weather is mild.
Summer and fire season
Parts of the district, particularly the forested hills to the north, are bushfire-prone. The CFA recommends preparing your property before the fire season, including clearing gutters, removing flammable material from around the house and keeping access clear. Our fire season preparation guide covers the handyman jobs that help. Always follow the CFA’s official advice for your property and area.

What makes a good handyman job
Not every repair needs a specialist trade, and not every job suits a handyman. A good handyman job usually has a few things in common. It’s a repair, replacement or small improvement rather than a renovation. It doesn’t involve electrical wiring, plumbing connections, gas or structural changes. And it’s the kind of work where care and the right tools make the difference between a fix that lasts and one that fails again within months.
Take a sagging gate as an example. The quick fix is to prop it up or tighten a screw, but a gate usually sags for a reason: a post has moved, a hinge has worn, the timber frame has racked out of square or the latch side has dropped. Fixing it properly means finding the cause, whether that’s re-setting the hinge, adding a brace, packing or replacing the post, or adjusting the latch so it catches cleanly again. The same thinking applies inside. A door that sticks in winter might need planing, but it might also have loose hinge screws, a shifted strike plate or swollen paint along the edge. Working out the cause first saves you paying for the same job twice.
Getting the details right
The difference between an average repair and a good one is often in the small things: choosing wall fixings that suit the wall type, pre-drilling timber so it doesn’t split, sealing the cut edges of exterior timber, sanding a patch so it disappears under paint, and using exterior-grade fasteners on fences and decks so they don’t rust and stain. In a damp climate like ours, those details matter even more. Timber that is left unsealed absorbs water, and fixings that aren’t rated for outdoor use corrode quickly.
We also take care of your home while we work. That means drop sheets where there’s dust or paint, protecting floors when moving ladders and furniture, keeping the work area tidy and cleaning up properly at the end. If we notice something else that needs attention, such as a cracked tile, a loose handrail or a fence post starting to lean, we’ll point it out so you can decide whether to deal with it now or later. There’s no pressure to add jobs, but it’s better to know.
